We added another Angel today

We welcomed Mary Jo to our choir of Angels today. She is an experienced knitter, as you can tell by the lovely sequined sweater she is wearing and ...

the sweater on her needles, both of which she knitted. The sequined sweater fits her so well too. I might have to take lessons from her. I never liked the sweaters I knitted for myself even though they fit properly. They just made me feel like a stuffed sausage! LOL!

All sixteen of us were busily stitching away on our projects, some for donation to St. Anne's Institute and some for personal use.

Charlene worked on matching cardigans, Norwegian Fir, for her granddaughters to wear this Sunday for their Easter celebration. She was able to complete the last sleeve of the second sweater and sew on the buttons with a great sigh of relief that they were ready before the deadline.

Gerry was faced with a dilemma we all have encountered at one time or another. She ran out of yarn before she finished her shawl. Plan B was implemented and she added fringe to the short ends and turned it into a table runner. It's a shame because she did such a lovely job crocheting it too. At least she will still be able to use it. Jim completed another band of color and moved on to a band of beige on his blanket. And Bob is quickly running out of space to spread out his enormous blanket.

Last week Tina learned how to cast on, knit the knit stitch and how to tension the yarn. This week she learned the purl stitch so she is getting the hang of making stockinette fabric and reading her work. It's important to know what the fabric should look like from the right side and wrong side so you know where you are in a pattern and how to catch up if you find a mistake and need to tink back. Definition of tink: to unknit your stitches, knit spelled backwards. She is making great strides and has good stitch tension.

I finished and blocked the Apiarist Cowl made with a superwash wool which can be machine washed and dried. As a matter of fact, when I took it out of the blocking soak the stitches were still all wonky, even after futzing with it to try to even out the work. So I popped it in the dryer with a bath towel and dried it for 10 minutes on low and it turned out just right.

Now I'm working on a pair of crazy socks using four different yarns. The toes, heels, and cuffs will be the solid purple while the remainder of the socks will be made with 3 different self striping and self patterning yarns. I'm not exactly following a pattern but if you wanted to you could use the Classic Socks by Yankee Knitter Designs.

I'm using TAAT on magic loop method.

Debra F. is knitting both of her socks simultaneously on double pointed needles. It still irks her that the yarn company tied knots in the yarn without lining up the color sequence so both socks would be alike. Meh! They'll be inside a shoe so who will notice? Knitters will!;)

Cinzia was going to make a baby cardigan using some wool she found in her stash but after the wool kept falling apart while she knitted, she decided to toss the project in the trash. She doesn't remember where she acquired the yarn but she thinks it was just too old.

Barbara has the Bird by Bird Hat on her needles but she's not crazy about this yarn. It's splitty which makes the experience of knitting with it annoying.

But her twisted ribbing looks great.

Ceil is making a cowl with a pretty lace design. Those blue markers divide her work into pattern repeats to make it easier to follow in case you miss a stitch.

Gail worked on a pair of mitts that match the hat from the Ciel pattern. The bulky weight yarn and fat needles will make this a quick knit.

Yvonne's scarf is getting longer each week.

She is using a ribbed stitch to prevent curling of the fabric.

Karen is using two acrylic yarns held together on very large needles to make a lap robe, or a car seat blanket, or possibly a baby bunting. She hasn't decided yet. She's letting the yarn decide for her. ;)

We had a visitor this week. This beautiful young lady is Danielle and she crochets. She has the week off from school for spring break and saw our sign in the lobby and just happened to have her work with her so she stopped in for a while. She is working with a fuzzy chenille yarn to make a purse. Maybe after she graduates from school she can come back and be a permanent Stitch Angel.

That's about it for this week with the Stitch Angels.

Have a great week and keep those needles clicking!
