Three new faces

knittingchick50

There were 17 Stitch Angels in attendance today. Among us were three new faces.

Sabby stopped by with her friend Nicole so they could learn how to crochet. I got her started by learning how to make a chain. Then we moved on to the single crochet stitch.

The hardest part to learning how to crochet is building muscle memory so you can build confidence handling the tools. Nicole worked hard at trying different ways to grasp the yarn and hook. It will take practice and patience but I know these two young ladies can do it.

And thank goodness for YouTube videos which help guide them when I can't be sitting beside them.

Our last new face is Wanda who is a very experienced crocheter. She's working on this hat which is almost finished.

She showed us the skirt and summer top she made as a gift and three squares which will become a sweater with a Hello Kitty theme.

Bob added a few more bands of color to his blanket. His great knitting skills show in the neat tension he gets in his fabric.

Edgar was having issues with his crochet project. It looks like he's going to have to frog it and start over. But again, YouTube to the rescue! He has a link to a video which will help with each step along the way.

Gail wanted me to explain to everyone that she's still working on the Upward Bound Beanie because she had to rip back and reknit when she found a mistake. Unlike sewing where once the fabric is cut you are committed to the project, knitting and crochet can be ripped out and redone as long as you don't do it too many times, which can wear out the fiber.

Tomasa is making The Great 88 hat which uses two different yarns held together. In the last picture you can see the two shades of pink which give depth to the color of the fabric.

Maria started a second Quaking Aspen cowl for a friend who picked out her favorite colors. Jan's KG Beanie uses a bulky weight yarn in a yummy, warm brown.

Darwin is a speed demon with his crochet work. Each week he arrives having completed another project. This current project is a brightly colored bag.

He also completed a scarf. I swear you can see smoke coming off his crochet hook! LOL!

Gerry is another prolific crocheter. She finished three sets for the annual yarn bombing which is held each November.

Jim is working on a baby hat.

He has a few more rows to complete before he closes the top. He already has an order to crochet another blanket.

Debra frogged a mitten which turned out to be an inch too large and has restarted the cuff (middle photo) in the appropriate size. Her KAL socks look like they'll be done soon.

Tina's Twin City Scarf is coming along beautifully. For someone who just learned how to knit, she has really taken off with her skills! Look at those beautiful cables!

Yvonne finished a neatly cabled hat and is well on her way to finishing the Journey Scarf. It is no longer available on Ravelry but with a little experience you can probably figure it out from the pictures. Or maybe you could just make an enlarged copy of the photo.

Janna finished one 1898 Hat and has the start of another. The pretty heather blue yarn is going to be a scarf for herself. She started the Corduroy Scarf but wasn't crazy with the results so she too will be knitting the Journey Scarf.

My One Chevron Scrap Cowl should be done soon. I have a few more rows of this variegated yarn and then the last band of deep purple will be added to finish it off. To complete the cowl, the short ends will be grafted together to form an infinity scarf.

Indulge me while I brag a little. Last Thursday my husband and I had the honor of joining my grandson in Pennsylvania on the football field as he and his fellow senior teammates were recognized for their participation as Strath Haven Panthers. His team is 8-0 this year. To say I was bustin' my buttons with pride would be an understatement. And yes, it's official. I am the shortest one in the family now (I cheated in this picture as I was wearing heels but even the newest teen in the family is taller than me.) I am truly blessed!

The temps have finally dropped to degrees that will allow me to wear my favorite woolens. Now I just have to bring them out of storage for the season. So I better get a move on or I'll be mighty cold in my t-shirts and shorts! Have a great week and keep those needles clicking!
