Lesson day

Pat, in the gray shirt, and Keiko, in the blue shirt, bookended me so they could have a lesson in knitting socks from the toe up. We started with learning how to cast on for magic loop. It took me demonstrating and repeating the steps many times but I kept reminding them to take a deep breath and relax their hands. They aren't going to be graded so just have fun! Pat was getting frustrated but she brought a sock knitting book she owns that offered many different methods for sock knitting so she is going to try her hand at cuff down instead. There are so many different methods to knit a sock that she should be able to find one which helps her to enjoy the experience.

Learning is a process of trial and error and after starting and frogging quite a few times, Keiko was able to grasp the concept and knitted herself a toe of her first sock!

She also showed us her 22.5 Degree Shawl she completed recently.

She learned so much while knitting this project, including how to block the finished piece. It looks beautiful! Great job, Keiko!

Everyone was in deep concentration as they worked on their projects.

Debra B.'s granddaughter's favorite color is purple so she's crocheting squares to make a blanket for her.

Pat put the sock knitting aside to work on her grandbaby's blanket.

Better crochet faster Pat! The baby will be here before you know it!

The socks I was knitting over the last few weeks are finally finished. I used four different yarns to make the crazy stripes and solid sections.

The finished size looks like it will fit a size 7 to 8 or 9, depending on the recipients foot width.

Now I'm working on the Cerce Hat which starts with the cuff knitted lengthwise and grafted together to form a ring. Stitches are then picked up along one edge and the crown continues from there. I'm using Plymouth Encore DK, a machine wash and dry fiber.

Barbara completed the Elevenses hat, a beautifully cabled project. She used Lion Brand Wool Ease in a pretty heathered pink.

Currently on her needles is the Imagine Mittens, a free pattern on Ravelry. She is using the magic loop method to knit these so she doesn't have to fiddle with 5 double pointed needles.

Debra F. completed one mitten and is working the thumb gusset on the second one. Here is just one of the many easy knitted mittens patterns available for free on Ravelry.

Pam is working on a pair of Tube socks from Miss Woolly Knits on Ravelry. The free pattern includes variations to change it up a bit. Her choice of yarn makes a vanilla sock sing!

Missy completed her sweet little crocheted kerchief which she designed. Darwin's crochet skills are the bomb as are Bob's knitting skills!

Yvonne's colorful hat will bring a smile to the face of its recipient and surely will brighten a cold winter day!

She is also putting the finishing touches to her washcloth which has been in progress these past few weeks.

Karen wants to make a poncho for herself and has chosen a pattern offered for free called "Olive"

She just started casting on stitches using a lightly plied, bulky weight, gradient yarn.

I'm getting "The Look" from Fozzie which means it must be dinner time.

Come to think of it, I'm feeling a little hungry myself. So I'll wish you a great week and

keep those needles clicking!
